Trading Sacks for a Taco Shack

1916

What’s up with ex-BC Lions and fast food restaurants in Vancouver??  First it was Noah Cantor with Vera’s Burger Shack and now we have Daved Benefield rolling Mexican at the Taco Shack. Who would have thought that an athlete known for his brawn would know his way around the kitchen?

I popped in for a quick chicken taco this afternoon and was super impressed when Daved cooked it up fresh himself. The Shack has only been open for six days and they’re still breaking in the space (Vera’s old spot on Cornwall) but I think this joint may be able to give the Burrito Brothers a run for their money. The menu is super simple – tacos, burritos, and quesadillas – which makes for less options at the till and the food getting into your belly quicker. Daved deserves our support, after all, he did re-sign with the BC Lions last month so that he could retire with the team where he played his best football.

I went to the Taco Shack days after opening. The service was great as was the food (I tried the soft taco’s..got one of each type). Daved was super friendly introducing himself saying he was the owner. Who knew he was a pro player? Not I!

I guess thats what happens when you stop lifting weights and start lifting burritos. Maybe Balco will help me? (kidding) Anyway thanks for the line and thanks for your support. We are still working out the kinks but we intend to make California style mexican food.

    Thanks again.

I thought I was known more for my brain (TIME MAGAZINE contributor) than my brawn?
