Broadway must have some unique draw for specialty Mexican food joints. The arrival and subsequent failure of not one, but two Churro places hasn’t gone unnoticed here, and in recent months two new – and hopefully more viable – Mexican themed stores have opened up on Broadway.
First, back in the spring, Taco Shack (owned and operated by ex-Lions’ Daved Benefield) opened up a second location at 3134 West Broadway, suggesting the Cornwall location has been doing well. Urban Diner reports that Taco Shack was recognized in the November issue of Air Canada’s enRoute magazine as one of 20 notable new restaurants in Canada. Looks like a new Vancouver franchise is born.
Second, Fresh is Best just opened their doors at 2972 West Broadway. Starting out at the local Farmers’ Market in Kamloops, founders Lisa and Colin have been making salsas, tortilla chips, guacamole, etc. for over 8 years. Fresh is Best products have been available at local supermarkets for a while, but they will be selling their full range of products at the new store. What’s great about this store is that everything really is fresh; all products are made daily and without the use of any preservatives or additives.
So whether you are looking for some tasty ready-to-eat Cali-Mex food or essential do-it-yourself ingredients, head on over to Broadway.

Plus there’s the one closer to the hospital on Broadway, Cilantro and Jalepeno. And I guess the Mex/Red/Whatever Burrito closer to Cambie too.
