Kits Yacht Club hosts Fundraiser

Kitsilano resident Peter Debay was kind enough to contact us to let us know about a fundraiser taking place at the Kits Yacht Club this Saturday, August 16th from 7-11pm. The Blue and White Night is a fundraising party benefiting the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. They’ll be holding a silent auction at the party with some great items, like accommodation at the Opus Hotel, some original works of art, and for the Naslund lovers out there, an authentic Canucks jersey signed by most members of last year’s Canucks’ roster.

In addition to being a volunteer fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society, Debay is a member of the 2008 Ascent for Alzheimer’s team. In September a team of  10 British Columbians will travel to Tanzania where they’ll attempt to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340 feet) to raise awareness in the battle against Alzheimer’s. In addition to each climber paying his or her own expenses for the trip, there is a fundraising commitment of $10,000 per climber in charitable donations for the Society – to date Debay’s team has raised $110,000 to add to the $1.6 million raised by previous years’ teams.

For those who can’t attend next Saturday’s fundraiser, you can support Peter’s climb with a direct donation here.
