Coast Mountain Sports making a move

2176

It turns out Coast Mountain Sports is migrating North to join the new Sport Chek in the old Canadian Tire location on Chestnut Street. Great call by the Forzani group – while Coast Mountain got plenty of walk-in traffic on West 4th, the busy street location didn’t lend itself to big-ticket purchases outdoor purchases like kayaks and tents.

The big question that remains is who will move into the space at 2201 West 4th Avenue? It’s a big retail footprint, so I can’t imagine an independant store taking it on. Rumours of another mall-style retailer are swirling now that West 4th is home to Reitmans, Foot Locker, and Le Chateau. Any guesses? First one to nail it in the comments below gets a $20 gift card to the new store.

    The Gap.

I’ll go with a bit of an outsider guess: Zara. I think they are aggressive enough, and if we’re going to have to welcome another mall store, it might as well be one that fits somewhat.

Heard a rumor that Lululemon was going to move their Kitsilano flagship store one block east to the CMS location. That would make sense.

  7. Paul says:

I agree Lululemon would be the most obvious. I always thought their store on 4th was a little inconspicuous.

Couldn’t see Old Navy going in there, really? Too big for Gap, but what about American Eagle. Any money on another restaurant?

The old Canadian Tire site is becoming a larger, stand-alone Coast Mountain Sports – no Sport Chek.

The renovations at the new Coast Mountain Sports are incredible!
