Starbucks may be closing 600 locations across the United States but they’re still going strong in Vancouver. So much so that Kitsilano’s busiest location at Cornwall & Yew is closed for the next 12 days to undergo an extreme makeover.
The big news on the corner is that Malones will be permanently shutting down – the street signage says “Seven Weeks until Closing Party”. Rumour on the street is that Joeys will be the anchor tenant of the new building planned for that plum piece of real estate.

Oh God…not “Joeys”…
Thank god. Malones is brutal! How about a 7-11 like the old days.
Joey’s? Great – a turd replaced by crap. A sure-fire surrey/meathead/hoochi-mama magnet. Way to go, “world class city.” Put another feather in your ego-packed cap, Vancouver.
Heard a rumour that it is going to be Earl’s? Same owners as Joey’s so either way would be kind of the same. Malones will be missed for their notalgia but not for the food!
what the heck ! i stumble upon this site for the first time to find out they used my flickr site grab that picture of starbucks..
kinda funny..
anyway, i agre that malone’s food is brutal, and a change is needed, but the last thing our neighbourhood needs is another joeys/earls/moxies/ whatever…
Hey Marc – Thanks for stopping by and thanks for letting us use your Starbucks photo.
Malone’s has food?
HA. Malones food is the best.
Actually, i didn’t “let” you use it, you took it without asking.
@Marc – According to your Creative Commons license on Flickr, “you let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work – and derivative works based upon it – but only if they give you credit”.
No worries if you’ve changed your mind – I’ll removed the photo and credit.
