Whenever I’m short on time, or just in the mood for a great pasta dinner for the family, I head over to Raviolino’s at 4th and Macdonald (2822 W 4th Ave.) and pick up some of their tasty fresh noodles to bring home.
The owners of this local staple have been open for business in Kits since 2002, having had a pasta factory in Lima, Peru since 1982. The more than 25 years of experience in pasta making shows, with a wide selection of fresh pastas, sauces, bakery goods and other delicious treats.
Fresh pastas are definitely the specialty here. Take your pick from the large showcase. Everything from Spaghetti & Linguine to Cannelloni, Ravioli & Tortellini in seemingly endless These pastas not only come in regular, being egg, but they also offer wheat free, organic and vegan options. Add to that one of their flavourful sauces, and you have a great “homecooked” meal. One of my favourites (and my kids, too) is the Spinach and Ricotta Agnolotti in a creamy tomato sauce. Serve it with a loaf of good bread and a side salad – it makes for a quite meal and happy parents.
Not only does Raviolino’s do pasta well, they also have a large selection of meats, cheeses, olives, ready to eat entrees, pizza dough and baked goods. I often keep a package or two of chicken empanadas in the freezer for a quick snack. It’s a odd but delicious combination of chicken thigh, egg, green olives and raisins inside a flaky pocket. And don’t forget to grab a chocolate chip cookie – they make one of the best cookies in town!
Stop in to grab some fresh pasta to go (it keeps well in the freezer, so you can keep it on hand), or grab a soup and sandwich at one of their few tables for lunch. If you need help or inspiration, don’t be afraid to ask, they are very helpful, or even check their website for cooking tips. Your stomach will thank you.
