On Wednesday, November 10th at the Wired Monk Kitsilano’s own Joel Heng Hartse reads from his new book, Sects, Love, and Rock & Roll, a collection of personal essays about popular music and religious faith.

Joel Heng Hartse reads from “an exploration of the intersections between evangelical Christian culture and the pop music scene. In these pages, Joel Heng Hartse, a youth group dropout turned music critic, riffs on bands ranging from Weezer to Creed, from Sufjan Stevens to dc Talk, from Jeff Buckley to mewithoutYou, mixing laugh-out-loud humor with thoughtful reflection to explain how his obsession with rock & roll has shaped his faith (and vice versa) That might sound serious, but there are a lot of jokes.”

Hartse’s reading starts at 7:00pm at the The Wired Monk at 2610 West 4th Avenue and he’ll be accompanied by  musical guest Miles Mattix.
