Sitka to be renamed Ardea Books & Art to avoid surfboard confusion

Kitsilano’s newest bookstore Sitka Books & Art announced today that it will be renamed Ardea Books & Art effective immediately.

Ardea Books & Art is Vancouver’s largest independent full-service bookstore and opened its doors on West 4th Avenue in early October and fills the void created by the closing of Duthie Books.

Store Manager Ria Bleumer stated that the name change was in response to concerns about a similarly-named local retail store – Sitka Surfboards – and decided to change the store’s name at this early stage to foster good relations in the local business community.

Kitsilano.ca hinted at the name confusion last March when Bleumer announced her plans to open a new store.

Was wondering when this would happen! Curious why they didn’t walk the block first before originally naming the store. Hope this doesn’t hurt them. I enjoy having another bookstore back on W4th again!
