MEC Paddlefest returns to Jericho Beach Park on July 10th

From kayakers to outrigger canoes; from surf skis, to stand-up paddling, to times when the wind unexpectedly dies and sailors resolve themselves to their alternative propulsion system – every day is a “paddle fest” at the Jericho Sailing Centre – but only Sunday, July 10 is MEC Paddlefest Vancouver 2011.

Mountain Equipment Co-op Paddlefest is an urban celebration of kayaking, canoeing, and the ocean environment in British Columbia. The festival will feature learning opportunities on the water and on the land. Paddlers of all skill levels are welcome. There will be FREE on water course Introduction to kayaking, guided tours, forward strokes, introduction to rolling, basic rescue, towing, paddling fitness, kids kayaking. Land clinics include navigation, choosing a kayak, choosing a paddle, trip packing, injury prevention, kayaking Vancouver Island. There will be manufacturer, sport educational, and environment displays as well as the Vancouver Aquarium’s mobile oceanariums-imagine, bringing sea creatures for a day at the beach.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to flex a paddle for free, but you must register in advance if you want in on a course by trekking over to www.mec.ca/paddlefest.
