July 15-17, 2011
It started in 1977 as a small grassroots fest. Now the Van Folk Music Festival which gets underway this Friday at Jericho Beach is a summer institution, drawing artists from around the world for three days of concerts and workshops. If you want to catch some banjo strummin’, tickets are still available. They run $150 for a three day adult pass and $75 for a day single.
Local artists include Kathryn Calder (The New Pornographers) and the bluesy C.R. Avery. Visiting notables include Roseanne Cash, the daughter of legendary Johnny and a talented singer/songwriter in her own right, plus Nashville-native Gillian Welch.
