In December of 2009, David Hunter Garden Centers’ Kitsilano location closed after 49 years. Despite significant community support, including a lengthy petition, the condo development at West Broadway and Maple resulted in the closure of this neighbourhood fixture. The Kitsilano closure left a massive gap for gardeners in the neighbourhood.

David Hunter Garden Center is well known for their incredible service and diverse, high quality garden and nursery products. Lucky for us, they are set to return to the ‘hood soon. I hope Colonel Sanders likes perennials, because the former KFC location on West Broadway and Trafalgar will soon be David Hunter’s new home. We hear that the opening is slated for mid to late March.

Very much agree with Mary-that empty space has been a boil on the face of Broadway for too long.

That’s fantastic news. I feel sorry for KFC… but no not really. Didn’t know anyone ate KFC anymore.

I am really happy to hear that Hunter’s is returning to Kitsilano!! Also happy to hear that something will finally happen to the old KFC site – it was looking pretty crappy, and KFC always sucked anyway.
