The Vancouver Sun is reporting that an 85-year-old man was killed by a three-tonne truck as he tried to cross West 4th Avenue this morning around 10:30am.
The man was struck and killed near Larch Street by the westbound landscaping truck, whose driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Police don’t know whether the pedestrian was jaywalking at the time, but the intersection near where he was struck is uncontrolled with no crosswalks or traffic lights.
The Vancouver Police Department’s collision investigation unit is handling the case and say speed and alcohol do not appear to be involved. Investigators are asking any witnesses to contact them at 604-717-3012.
