Carl Heinrich beats Kitsilano’s Trevor Bird in Top Chef Season 2 finale

I’m not pleased. I prefer when Kitsilano wins. Last week the neighbourhood was aflutter about Trevor Bird‘s new restaurant, Fable, which opened on West 4th Ave. Last night, our newest, hottest local chef lost in the 90-minute, Season 2 Top Chef Canada finale to Carl Heinrich.

Heinrich currently lives in Toronto but originally is from Sooke, BC. Heinrich stole the Top Chef Canada title with a 4-course meal that included a smoked trout salad, a roasted elk loin, an orange and fennel sorbet and a peach cobbler.

Bird served up: a goat cheese, pickled raspberry and hazelnut amuse bouche; olive oil-poached salmon; “veal doppelgänger” (two preparations of veal); and a blueberry mascarpone tart.

The finale guest judge was Vancouver restaurateur Vikram Vij.

From The Vancouver Sun: “Carl deserved to win. He’s a very technically good cook. Myself, I can’t say the same thing,” said Bird.

He added that he was pleased to get a new restaurant, Fable, out of it. As is Kitsilano.
