Fall fashion in stores now at Plen+y (2803 West Broadway)

What to do this (long) weekend in Kits: August 31-Sept. 3

Pick blackberries. I said it last week and I’ll say it again. They’re free and they’re ripe now. Try: Kits Beach path by the Yacht Club, under the Burrard Bridge and near the railroad tracks. Watch out for brambles.

Beachfront picnic. I love this weather. The mornings and evenings are cooling off. But the sun is still out. It may be one of your last chances to cling to that summer feeling and hang out at the beach. So go do it.

Swim the Kitsilano Pool. Again, your chances are running out. For some of us, pool access is why we can’t move away from this neighbourhood, even though we’ll never be able to afford the mortgage on a Craftsman house.

Browse fall fashion. Kits boutiques (xo bella, Lushuz, Leo, Moule, Plen+y, Urban Outfitters, Wear Else, Mavi) are just getting their fall line up in stores. And it’s also time to scope boots at Gravity Pope. We’ll miss Gumdrops when the rain starts.

Back to school shopping. I’m requesting input from Kits parents on this one. Do you shop for clothes and school supplies in Kits? If so where? If not, where do you go to find deals and what is our ‘hood missing?

Dine with Julia Child, through Sept. 2. It’s the last weekend of the Bistro Pastis prix fixe Julia Child Centennial Menu. Start with Quenelle de Crustacés. Peak with Pot au Feu. Finish with Charlotte Chantilly aux Framboises. It’s $42 a head.

Taste Okanagan wines, Sept. 1-2. Okanagan Estate Wine Shop ( 3669 West 4th) is doing free See Ya Later Ranch tastings from 2-6pm, Saturday and Sunday. Sample Belle (Viogner), Hunny (Late Harvest Riesling), Unleashed (Pinot Gris) and Ping (Meritage).

Free yoga on Kits Beach, Sept. 2. Hosted by Semperviva, with community hour after the 6-7pm session. You can’t miss ’em just west of Kits Pool. Bring your own mat.
