As an American expat, “Black Friday” is a phrase that causes me to hide-out, enjoying media marathons on my mid-century modern couch. You won’t find me racing across the border to do battle for deals. For those who are on the hunt however, Kitsilano’s West 4th is taking on the big box retailers with Black Friday on West 4th. In fact it’s British Columbia’s only street-wide Black Friday sale.
From November 23-25, retailers on West 4th Avenue will be taking on cross-border shoppers and holding their own sales to try and encourage people to shop locally and support the local economy.
“Keeping US-destined dollars here in Vancouver is great for local retailers and enjoyable for
consumers,” says Russ Davies, Executive Director of the Kitsilano 4 th Avenue Business Improvement Association. “Instead of spending a weekend dealing with long lineups at the border, people can experience the fantastic stores West 4 th has to offer and enjoy saving money at the same time.”
Look for deals on Shop West 4th’s website and Facebook page.

Sadly….. the regular price in Canada is higher than in the US. The selection and price in the US trounces anything Canadian retailers have to offer. As soon as retailers start top refuse to may more than their US counterparts for the exact same thing they will win. Until then…off to the US to save 60% or more.
