Serving New Year’s Day brunch? Try Terra Bread’s Chocolate Cherry Panettone French Toast recipe

Terra Breads offered some great new products for the holidays this year, including chocolate covered pecan fruit crisps, German stollen with rum-soaked raisins, chocolate crackle cookies made with stout and fruit or chocolate cherry panettone loaf. While I am partial to classic fruit panettone, the combination of chocolate and cherries makes my husband weak at the knees, so that’s the one we picked up. The panettone will be used to make Chocolate Cherry Panettone French Toast to be served as the feature dish at the New Year’s Day brunch we are hosting.

Terra Bread’s Chocolate Cherry Panettone French Toast

1 large egg
3/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp granulated sugar
4 slices Terra Chocolate Cherry Panettone
8 tsp unsalted butter

In a small bowl, whisk together a batter of egg, milk, vanilla extract, salt and sugar. Transfer batter to a pie plate. Heat two 10” to 12” skillets over medium heat. Soak the panettone slices in batter, about 15 seconds per side. Allow excess batter to drip off. When skillets are hot, swirl 2 tsp of butter in each skillet, then place one slice of soaked panettone in each. Cook until golden brown, about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes on each side. Repeat with remaining slices. Serve warm and finish with your favourite toppings
