2017 Update: What to do on Canada’s 150th Birthday
Canada Day is soon here. Are you staying in Vancouver or visiting on Monday, July 1? If so, here are five fun things to do on Canada Day in Vancouver.
1) Canada Day at Granville Island
This all-in-one package celebration starts at 8am and runs until midnight on Granville Island. Festivities include a “Canadian” pancake breakfast, a parade, a children’s pavilion, live jazz and other wandering performers as well as an official Canada Day ceremony.
2) Canada Day at the Kitsilano Showboat
Head to the Kitsilano Beach stage situated in front of Kitsilano Swimming Pool for free performances such as Whistles the Clown, music from Eratica, an Oh Canada singalong and cake. This is a great option for families with early bedtime. The fun runs from 3:15 to 7pm.
3) Canada Day at Canada Place Parade and Waterfront Party
The waterfront party kicks off at 10am and runs until 6pm. The parade starts at 7pm. This is Vancouver’s biggest party with three stages for live music; the producers also coordinate the annual Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks.
4) Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show
Pyrotechnic glory from 10:30pm to 11pm over Burrard Inlet. Catch a glimpse from downtown, the westside, Kitsilano’s Vanier park and more.
5) Canada Day Steveston Salmon Festival
Just a short drive from Vancouver, the charming waterfront town Steveston celebrates Canada Day by barbecuing a heck of a lot of salmon. The ex-fishing village knows its stuff; all 1,200 pounds sell out quick. Start with a tasty meal and stay for a parade, live music and a craft market. Festivities run from 6:30am to 5pm.
