It’s impossible to miss the red and white tent and stage set up in Vanier Park in Kitsilano. It’s here that the annual Shakespearean theatre festival Bard on the Beach wows crowds with reinterpretations of classics set against a stunning backdrop of the Burrard Inlet and North Shore Mountains. While we recommend checking out any performance in this year’s line-up–you can’t go wrong–at your earliest convenience, it’s the annual Celebration of Light Bard-B-Q at Bard on the Beach that is truly spectacular.

Tickets are $99 and include a play, a salmon barbecue dinner at intermission and following the show, a private seating area to view Celebration of Light fireworks along with some delicious desserts and complimentary tea and coffee. If you’ve ever tried to get seats to see the fireworks, you know that competition is fierce. Tickets for Bard-B-Q July 27, July 1 and August 3 are on sale now and sell out fast.

In 2013, Bard on the Beach presents Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Made for Measure and Elizabeth Rex. Find plot synopses here.
