Celebrate-Stanley-Park

Not only is Stanley Park one of the world’s largest urban parks ( at 400-hectares, it’s larger than NYC’s Central Park), but it also has played an important role in our city’s history. To mark Stanley Park’s 125th Anniversary, the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Parks Board are throwing a helluva party.

Celebrate! Stanley Park takes place this weekend, August 24 and 25. So head on over to our very own urban West Coast rainforest and have fun. There’s something for everyone and most of the events are free. Find our list of must-attend events below:

Best Events at Celebrate! Stanley Park

Live at Second Beach

If it’s music you’re into then head to the Stanley Park Live Stage at Second Beach. You’ll be entertained by a line-up of all Canadian musicians including Juno Award winners Arkells (performing Sunday August 25, 6-7pm).  You can grab a bite to eat at the food concessions and enjoy a pint of one of Stanley Park Brewery’s beer.

Brockton Sportsapalooza

Head over to Brockton Oval to catch a rugby or cricket match or to Brockton Point to watch a traditional Coast Salish Slahal game or Coast Salish canoe races.  Or you can try out some new sports like orienteering or speedminton and speak to club members to find out how you can sign up.

 Family Fun at the Arch

The family stage at Lumberman’s Arch is the place to be for the preschool set.  There will be performers including perennial favourites Bob’s and Lolo, Will Stroet and the Backyard Band, and Marnie.  There will be Coast Salish artisans and cultural displays, the Stanley Park Ecology Society will be offering discovery trail walks and the Aquarium’s Aqua Van will be there.

Memory Lane at the Gardens

Enjoy an historical tour and visit the displays in the Rose Garden to discover the important role Stanley Park has played in our City’s history.
