Thanksgiving leftovers ran out days ago. Those mini chocolate bars bought for Halloween next week are looking rather appetizing. Perhaps it’s time to head out for lunch today? Try one of these 5 Kitsilano restaurants for lunch, each with their own distinct appeal.

5 Lunch Spots to Try in Kitsilano

1. Akbar’s Own
Camouflaged amongst print shops and convenience stores, Akbar’s Own has been quietly serving excellent North Indian fare to Kits residents for over two decades. With crisp white linens and daily lunch specials for $11, it’s rather surprising that there’s no long wait for a table. To try: the Chicken Thali lunch special with a side of pappadum.

2. Nuba
The first location of this Lebanese restaurant opened on Hastings Street in 2003. Nuba now has four locations including the recent Kits spot. All the meats are halal and happy, and lunch specials range from about $7-13. To try: the Lamb Kibbeh Plate with a freshly squeezed custom juice. Or several orders of the Najib’s Special crispy cauliflower.

3. Romer’s Burger Bar
Here you can also count on all-natural and free-range meats. The menu is a-la-carte with a hefty burger and fries costing under $15. To try: the Man’s Man Burger and ask to “Make it Green”. Romer’s also has a fabulous brunch now as well.

4. Summer In Greece
A real hole-in-the-wall with blue and white authenticity all over those walls. Greek owner and Chef Spiro (check out his John Travolta-like photo of himself showcased proudly near the counter) makes everything in-house and his portions are generous. To try: the leg of lamb meal with a side of hummus.

5. Sushi Bella
Owner and Chef Kabel has been creating exotic sushi rolls since 1999 and now has three Sushi Bella locations. Expect standard as well as special house rolls, fresh ingredients, and great service. To try: the Lunch Sashimi Bento Box for $15 or the Aloha Fish Tacos for $10.
