Despite the drippy morning, sun and pretty-in-pink blossoms are just around the corner. Toward the end of March and throughout April, Vancouver’s 40,000-plus cherry trees burst into bloom. 35 varieties of cherry trees will carpet Vancouver’s streets with petals. Every year, Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the blossoms with festivities that take place April 3-28, 2014.

In addition to soaking up views of beautiful cherry blossoms, festival-goers will experience lively musical performances, colourful artist demonstrations and educational guided cherry tree walks. Highlights include a free outdoor Cherry Jam Downtown Concert, the Sakura Days Japan Fair at VanDusen Botanical Garden, the Sakura Illumination Tour on Granville Island and more.

It’s also easy and free to enjoy the blossoms on your own initiative by picnicking, walking or biking the cherry-pink way. Use the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival bloom map to locate your favourite blossom variety.  If you’re keen to join a group, pedal along at the Bike the Blossoms event – a free blossom bike ride that takes place on April 26.
