Childcare Options for Vancouver Parents during Monday’s Teachers Strike

The threat of possible rotating strikes by B.C. Teachers starting next Monday, May 26, has left many parents scrambling to find childcare for their children.  Here are four organizations offering day camps for students on Monday May 26, the day that Vancouver schools may be closed.

Childcare Options for Vancouver Parents during Monday’s Teachers Strike

  1. The YMCA is offering day camps at some of their locations in Metro Vancouver, including Langara Family YMCA in South Vancouver.  Visit the YMCA website for a list of all camp locations and phone numbers so you can call to register.
  2. Grouse Mountain is offering Adventure Day Camps the week of May 26-29, 2014.  The camps begin at 8:30am finish at 3:30pm, and after-care is available until 4:30pm. Book your kids in for a day of new and exciting activities centered around outdoor exploration, animal behaviour and mountain rescue and discovery.  Cost: $57 – single day.  Book online at Grousemountain.com/camps
  3. Richmond Olympic Oval is running its popular multi-sport Get Skills full day camps on Monday May 26 and Tuesday May 27.  Kids aged 5-12 will take part in a variety of Oval activities from climbing on our indoor rock wall to traditional sports such as soccer, basketball, badminton and plenty of fun games.  The camp runs 8:30am–4:30pm and before and after camp care is offered at extra cost.  Cost: Non-member $64, Members $58
  4. Kerrisdale Community Centre is offering a one day camp for kids affected by the teacher’s strike on Monday, May 26 9:00am-4. Kids will enjoy an action-packed day of crafts, games and outside activities. You need to bring a packed lunch and dress appropriately for the weather. Cost: $25

    Knight Camp is a fantastic adventure for girls and boys 8 – 14yrs. Academie Duello is opening the day camps from June 16 through the 20th.

    During the looming BC teachers’ strike action, Skills 4 Kids will offer a special program to help parents looking for things for their kids to do. The program is designed to keep kids active and engaged in learning during regular school hours (9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday).
