Slimming down for the summer? In need of a cleansing detox? Or are you just looking for a sweet & healthy treat?
If the salad bar is looking too full of kale these days then try one of these 4 great smoothie and juice bars in Kitsilano instead.
1. East is East
Most of us are already familiar with East is East’s exotic Chai Feast dinners that feature the aromatic & spicy flavours of South Asia and the Middle East. As that feast leaves little room for dessert, you may be missing out on their gorgeously rich shakes and yogurt lassies. Try one of these two shakes from their take-out window on your next lunch break: The Kathmandu Hash (blueberries, strawberries, cherries, and ice cream) and the Nutty Gypsy (mixed nuts, cardamom, cinnamon, and chocolate). My favourite used to be the Peshawari Bazaar lassie made with yogurt, mint, cucumber, and salt, though it appears to no longer be on their menu…

2. Indigo Food Cafe
This raw and vegan cafe recently moved inside Greens Organic & Natural Market. Along with their lunch entrees and pies, Indigo also has organic cold pressed juices and smoothies on their new menu. Two to try: The Electrozoom juice (coconut water, cucumber, celery, wheat grass juice, apple, and spirulina), and the Super Drink smoothie (yerba mate, almond “mylk”, pomegranate juice, raw cacao, hemp, maca, camu camu, alfalfa, wheat grass juice, and lemon).

3. Krokodile Pear
The latest hipsteresque spot on the block presents their organic cold pressed juices on tap. This means you don’t have to wait long for your mason jar to be filled up with fresh and local goodness. Two drinks to try: The Pacific Spirit juice: kale, spinach, parsley, romaine, cucumber, celery, apple, lime, and ginger), and the Muscle Up smoothie (Brazil nuts, hemp seeds, vanilla, coconut sugar, Himalayan rock salt, water blended with raw cacao, and banana). Krokodile Pear also offers serious cleanses for those wanting a detox.

4. Sejuiced
As an established vegetarian eatery, Sejuiced does simple food well, and the same goes for their freshly squeezed juices. Plus their prices are hard to beat. Two juices to try: The Mambo Magic (orange, apple, and mango), and the Brain Tonic (strawberries, banana, coconut milk, apple, panax ginseng, and gingko biloba).
