June 2014 is full of must-attend events in Vancouver and Kitsilano, specifically. The launch of Kitsilano Showboat season, Car-Free Day Kitsilano, Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival,  Dragon Boat Festival and Greek Day on Broadway are all happening this month.

Here’s what you need to know.

5 Unmissable June Events in Vancouver

1. Bard on the Beach: June 11-September 20
This year we’re celebrating the 25th season of Bard on the Beach, Canada’s largest not-for-profit, pro Shakespeare festivals. The drama goes down on stages set up in our beautiful Vanier Park, with the North Shore mountains and Burrard Inlet as backdrop.

2. Car-Free Days Kitsilano: June 14-15
Kitsilano does Car-Free day a little differently than the rest of Vancouver’s neighbourhoods. Instead of closing off a major street, people throughout Kits host potluck block parties with their neighbours. To host your own party or find out where the parties are in 2014, follow this link.

3. Kitsilano Showboat: June 23-Aug. 16
Iconic, historic, and FREE summer concerts including live music and kid-friendly programming at the stage behind the Kitsilano Pool. Free shows take place M/W/F/S at 7pm weather permitting.

4. Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival: June 20-22
180 dragon boat teams from around the world come to Vancouver for the annual Dragon Boat Festival which takes place at Concord Pacific Place (next to Science World). The is a multicultural event is all about the thrilling boat races. You can also expect live music and good eats.

5. Greek Day on Broadway: June 22
Join 100,000 other attendees to shout “Opa!” and dance with a new friend (after, of course, apologizing for your sticky baklava fingers). In addition to the unparalleled Greek cuisine, families will be impressed with the kids zone- including arts and crafts, growing a kid’s herb garden, bouncy rides, face painting, theatre, balloons, and much more.
