Last week, we brought you 4 budget friendly eats in Kitsilano. This week, forget about the contents of your wallet and treat yourself and a special someone to one of these 4 splurge-worthy restaurants in the hood.
4 Splurge-Worthy Restaurants in Kitsilano
1. For the locals
Delicious, local, and it is as farm to table as it gets here at Fable. Try the mussels from Read Island, the BC halibut, and as a finale (just as the French do), a selection of local cheeses. Come for brunch, lunch, or dinner. And definitely try the Boozy Brunch on the last Sunday of every month, where drinks are half price.
Fable, 1944 W 4th Ave, (604) 732-1322, Fablekitchen.ca
2. For the purists
Hidden amongst various non-descript apartment buildings, mediocre restaurants, and a convenience store along busy Cornwall avenue, sits the delicate Octopus Garden. Authentically Japanese, with a cute fishing decor to match, this sushi spot is often seen as the less expensive but equally as good alternative to Tojo’s. Try the Omakase Course ($75 per person), essentially a chef’s menu consisting of about 6 courses or so – a wonderful way to taste the best that owner and Chef Sada Hoshika can offer.
Octopus Garden, 1995 Cornwall Avenue, (604) 734-8971, Octopusgardensada.com
3. For the romantics
Easily the most iconic restaurant in Kitsilano, Bishop’s has been open since 1985 and sets the standard for fine dining, West Coast-style. One could easily stick to the 100-mile diet here with the beet salad from Hazelmere Farm in Surrey, the beef from Pitt Meadows, and for dessert, house-made ice cream. Follow owner and Chef John Bishop’s lead and order his favourite drink while here: a Campari Spritzer (so very British of Mr. Bishop 😉
Bishop’s, 2183 West 4th Avenue, (604) 738-2025, Bishopsonline.com
4. For the yogis
Organic, vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, corn-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, alkaline, ayurvedic, uhh..did we mention organic? Yes, that’s what’s on the menu at Golden Aura – a health nut’s paradise. Try the Cosmic Curry Soup or the Golden Bowl which is a fusion of sprouted cooked grains, dhal, fresh greens, and live “kraut”. Desserts, juices, smoothies, medicinal lattes, and snacks to-go are also available.
Golden Aura, 2680 West Broadway, (604) 738-2872, Goldenaura.ca
