In September, more babies are born than in any other month of the year. Must have something to do with that wintery, romantic December month… Whether you are expecting next month or next year, or have a friend of family member who is, Kitsilano is the perfect place to shop for all that mom and baby require. Here’s our round up:

Pregnancy Shopping Guide for Kitsilano

1. Clothing
For mom-to-be there are some stylish outfits at Thyme Maternity and Motherhood Maternity including an assortment of “skinny jeans”, evening dresses, and flattering blouses. The basics are sold there too such as nursing bras, comfy sleepwear, and support belts. Check Hip Baby and Pebble for equally stylish baby wear, plus toys, books, and cloth diapers. For those with an unlimited budget, head to Babes on Fourth for mini Burberry, Hugo Boss, and other high fashion options.

2. Food
Our neighbourhood has every possible craving sorted with the variety of eateries available here. For healthy options where un-medicated free range meats and organic produce is used try Aphrodite’s for brunch and pies, Burgoo for hearty soups and stews, Terra Breads and Tractor for sandwiches and salads, and Krokodile Pear for fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies.

3. Health & Beauty
Natural brand belly oils, vitamins, diaper rash creams, and more can be found at Greens and Whole Foods, while Synergy and Aurora both offer prenatal massage therapy. J Natural Spa and Bioéthique’s Spa offer pampering facials using only organic products. And for prenatal and postnatal yoga, check out the Kitsilano Community Centre, Fit 4 Two, and Semperviva Yoga.

4. Nursery Decor
Cribs, mattresses, rocking chairs, carriers, strollers, and car seats, all in the latest modern designs, are available at Crocodile Baby, while TJ’s is great for finding feeding and bathing accessories. For unique, vintage pieces, have a look at Stepback – a treasure trove of wooden furniture, antique books and frames, and funky stuff like maps, suitcases, entomology frames, and tin cans.
