Fall Fashion Trends and Where to Find Them in Kitsilano

Fashion on 4th, hosted this past Thursday by Sarah Bancroft at Bimini Public House, introduced us to a horde of fall fashion trends, and, even better, told us exactly where we could find them on West 4th.

A few common themes were rich, bold colours – blue-black as the new go-to neutral and ox blood (or merlot, as I prefer to call it) as the favoured vibrant hue – as well as statement outerwear, military details, and skinny jeans (they’re not going anywhere for a while). A couple styling trends I will definitely indulge in include running shoes with skirts (ideal!), the collegiate look (skinny sweats and bomber jackets, again – ideal), and 80’s-style baggy tops over tight bottoms (do I have to say it again?).

All of these trending looks are ideal because they bring comfort to the forefront, which is exactly what we all need at this time of the year. With a couple choice accessories and lots of bold colour, comfort can also be stylish.

Here are a few of my favourite picks from spots along West 4th, so that you can feel cozy and chic all at once.

Statement Coat from Judith & Charles

If you’re going to invest in any one piece for the fall, then a gorgeous coat is the best place to put your money. You will likely be wearing it every day, and it will be what the majority of people you come across get to admire. Judith & Charles is the place to find your statement piece. With giant collars, faux fur options, and leather detailing, you’ll look forward to heading out the door each morning bundled up in one of these goodies.

Bomber Jacket from Gravity Pope

It’s back, baby! The collegiate style trend this year is bringing back a whole bunch of old favourites. I, for one, am definitely going to pick myself up a good old bomber jacket just because I wish I were that cool. Wear it with anything from sweats to jeans to a skirt to shield against that crisp autumn chill while adding a touch of nostalgia to your wardrobe. And if you want to look like a real student, pair with another fall trend: hightops (just make sure you don’t lace them up all the way or you’ll look like a complete nerd).

Military Jacket from Plum

This jacket has sold out at Plum for the past three seasons, so they’re bringing it back better than ever with new colours on offer. The old favourite, gray, is back alongside a new army green. Perfect for dressing up or down, this military piece is all the rage.

Baggy Sweaters from American Apparel

American Apparel does basic best, and one fall basic that you’ll definitely want to grab is a baggy sweater. Great with leggings for a cozy night in, or paired with skinny jeans and flats or sneakers for a day spent out and about, it’s a must have staple this season. At American Apparel, you can find a range of pullovers and cardigans in every colour your heart desires.

Jeans from Mavi

West 4th offers us absolutely all the basics from head to toe, and jeans in particular are especially well represented. My favourite place to pick mine up is Mavi. With all the colours, cuts, and washes you could imagine, everybody is sure to find their perfect pair. My favourite this season? The Adriana, a mid rise, super skinny, medium blue jean. Classic, comfortable, and cute to boot.

DRUSILLA-STONE

Boots from Miz Mooz

It wouldn’t be one of my top trends lists without a pick from Miz Mooz. This season, their little booties are back and more fabulous than ever. My favourite style is the Drusilla, a cute leather, lace-up ankle boot with a wedge heel. Miz Mooz is known for their vibrant colours, but I’d grab these guys in a nice, neutral tan so that you can get away with wearing them every day this season.
