This weekend is full of events across the city, with many happening in our own neighbourhood or close by. Not to mention that it’s Father’s Day this Sunday, June 21st! Have a family-and-budget-friendly good time this weekend with our list below of free events in and around Kitsilano.
4 Free Family Friendly Events Around Kitsilano this Weekend
1. Car Free Day
In Kitsilano, the annual Car Free Day means that your friendly neighbours will be hosting various Block Parties in the neighbourhood, rather than closing off one major street. Block Parties are a wonderful way to mingle with your fellow Kits residents, and kids are practically guaranteed to have a great time – with being able to run around safely on the street, bike decorating contests, street hockey, water fights, and lots of food and cake, and who knows what else! Block Parties will take place at various hours on Saturday and Sunday, June 20th-21st.
2. Vancouver Draw Down
This weekend will also be celebrating the annual Vancouver Draw Down art event. This is an all ages free event, inviting participants to take part in hands-on drawing events across the city. The Kitsilano Community Centre will be hosting a workshop on Saturday, June 20th, from 1pm-3pm, with a focus on graphite and oil pastels and texture rubbings. No artistic experience required! And no registration required either. Just show up!
3. Point Grey Fiesta Days
A little west of our Kitsilano neighbourhood, in Point Grey, a whole lot of free fun is planned for this weekend with the Point Grey Fiesta days. Starting with the Carnival rides and games at 8th Avenue and Trimble on Friday through till Sunday (the rides and games require tickets but entry is free, and on Sunday Dads ride free!). Saturday will kick off with a pancake breakfast at Safeway on 10th Avenue, followed by a parade along 10th Avenue, and then more fun at 8th Avenue and Trimble (at West Point Grey Park or better known as Trimble Park), including live music, entertainment, and a petting farm.
4. UBC Farmers Market
Come and visit the UBC Farm this Saturday, June 20th, from 9am-1pm, and pick up organically grown produce, fruit, and other goodies from the market. It’s a small market but the farm is expansive and offers free informative tours at 11am. Bring cash, bags, and find directions here. Just next door to the farm is a really great playground called Nobel Park and it includes a pond, softball field, and community gardens. No washrooms though, so use the public ones at the farm first.
