The UBC Apple Festival is a fall rite of passage in this neighbourhood. While some folks bemoan the cash-grab food stands, the rest of us are happy to celebrate over 100 varieties of heritage BC apples, eat apple pie, drink apple cider, and enjoy the thorough apple-themed events ranging from info sessions for avid gardeners to entertainment for families with small folk.

This year, the UBC Apple Festival takes place October 17-18. It’s $4 to enter. Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets to the apple tasting tent are $5.00.

The organizers have 50,000 lbs. of apples which they intend to sell to the public. Other highlights include demonstrations of grafting and cider-pressing, a leaf-pile stomp, face painting, games, storytelling and puppet shows.

Please note – no dogs are permitted on the festival grounds, with the exception of working service animals. A FREE Bike Valet will be available at the main entrance and there is a FREE shuttle bus from the UBC Campus West Parkade.
