This is the year to eat more veggies and spend less money. Sounds like last year, and the year before. Well anyway, we like it when something suits are rather empty wallet. So here are 3 family-friendly activities to partake in over the next week or so in Kitsilano, all with a modest budget in mind.
1. Winter Wander 2016 at Vanier Park
This five-attractions-for-five-dollars-event is back again this year. Take the family out for a day of history, science, music, and art at Vanier Park. Visit the Museum of Vancouver, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the City of Vancouver Archives, all in one day and all for just $5 per person. Children 5 and under are free. There will also be food vendors and entertainment at the park, plus a chance to win some great prizes. For one day only – Saturday, January 23rd, from 10am-5pm.
There’s always something to do at the KCC. Have a go at ice skating or hockey ($6.05 for adults, $3 for skate rentals), take the little ones, 5 and under, to the Parent & Tot Gym ($3 per child), or hang out at the Youth Lounge and play pool, ping pong, and other games for free. Check the KCC website or the links for schedules.
3. Vancouver Public Library, Kitsilano Branch
Choose from a variety of Storytimes (baby, toddler, preschooler, dads), and there’s also a special Reading Buddies for big kids which includes games, arts & crafts, and storytelling. On Thursday, January 28th, from 6:30pm-7:30pm, the Kitsilano Branch will host its Family Literacy Day: Family Fort Night for some fun storytelling and fort building. All these library events are free. Check the library website for full schedule.
