To kick off their SciFi Fall, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre presents: Star Trek 50th Anniversary Celebration.
On, September 8, come out to support your favourite Star Trek captain at the Geeks versus Nerds Vancouver debate and after watch the Trekkie documentary with fellow fans. Then, Star Trek month continues with a Star Trek family weekend and a movie double bill.
Star Trek September Events at the Space Centre:
Geeks versus Nerds Debate and Trekkies (1999)
- Thursday, September 8
- Doors open at 7:00pm, Debate begins at 7:30pm
Geeks versus Nerds Vancouver is beaming up to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre and asking the age-old question: “Who is the greatest Starship captain, James T. Kirk or Jean-Luc Picard?” Come out and support your favourite Star Trek captain as two teams of comedians, Geeks supporting Kirk, and Nerds supporting Picard, battle it out to see who was the better captain.
Following the debate enjoy the classic documentary Trekkies (1999), which delves into the hilarious and devoted fan culture around Star Trek.
Star Trek Family Weekend
- Saturday September 10 and Sunday, September 11
- 12:00-3:00pm
There will be plenty of Star Trek theme crafts and activites, including making your own Starship Enterprise, at the Space Centre Star Trek Family Weekend. And, if you come dressed as your favourite Star Trek character you will be entered into a draw to win a Space Centre Membership.
Star Trek Movie Double Bill
- Thursday September 15
- 6:30pm Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
- 9:00pm Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
To celebrate Star Trek’s move to the big screen, there will be special screenings of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, in the unique atmosphere of the Planetarium Star Theatre.You can catch the movies separately or check them both out for a special double bill price!
