Is Tinder, OkCupid, or eHarmony eating up a ridiculous amount of your time, and with no results?
Maybe it’s time to stop swiping left and go old school again. Have a go at these classic places to meet people, in person, right here in Kitsilano.
The Gym
Seems an obvious choice right? But when is the last time you chatted someone up while jogging on the treadmill? Most people seem to have their earbuds in these days so it’s not as easy as it used to be. All you need though is a good smile and a recurring timeframe to get things started. If you go to the gym, you probably go at a set time of the day and week, so chances are that other people there do the same. Try out Steve Nash Fitness World (younger crowd) on West Broadway, Ron Zalko (more serious crowd) on West 1st Avenue, or the Kitsilano Community Centre (older crowd) on Larch Street.
The Coffee Shop
You can still flip through your online dating app while here, but at least you’re surrounded by real humans (potentially ones you may want to date), some decent coffee, and you can have a light solo meal while you’re at it without feeling too awkward. Be brave and sit right next to someone you’re interested in and see where that goes. Try 49th Parallel Coffee (excellent coffee and donuts) and the Only Cafe (modern/vintage vibe, try the croissants), both on West 4th Avenue, or Platform 7 (cool interior plus Stumptown coffee) and Olive + Ruby (hipster heaven with avocado toast), both on West Broadway.
The Bar
No need to cringe at the thought of heading to the bar. These Kitsilano hotspots are cool, busy, friendly, and offer excellent drinks, plus bites to eat – Mission (chic restaurant with nice cocktails) and the Bimini (loads of happy students), both on West 4th Avenue, Corduroy (alternative and great pizza) on Cornwall Avenue, and The Ellis (mixed) on York Avenue.

Just an FYI @ member at Ron Zalko here. We’re not going there for dating or to socialize. We’re there to work out. Maybe stick to Steve Nash if you’re seeking hookups.
