It’s a long weekend this weekend as it’s Canada Day on Sunday, and here are some great events happening in our Kitsilano neighbourhood, from a selfless act to fun in the pub, Shakespeare, great food, and lots of entertainment. Have a good one!
Saturday, June 29th
Feel good about yourself today by doing something for the local environment. Join the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-BC) for their Kitsilano Beach Clean-Up from 3:30pm till 5:30pm. Meet in front of the Boathouse Restaurant at Kits Beach. Gloves, buckets, and pickers will be provided, and a celebratory drink afterwards is most likely going to happen.
If not, then head to The Wolf & Hound Irish Pub on West Broadway for a pint and live music by local country/rock band The Pernell Reichert Band, from 8:30pm till 11:30pm.
Sunday, June 30th
Our Kitsilano neighbourhood will again be hosting various Block Parties for Car Free Day this weekend, so take a walk or bike around to find one near you, or host your own! Over at Vanier Park, the Bard on the Beach festival still has tickets for their Exploring Shakespeare Talk today, and the plays – As You Like It, and Timon of Athens.
Monday, July 1st
It’s Canada Day today, so there are plenty of festivities around town, but start your day at the Kitsilano Farmers Market from 10am till 2pm, and look for the always awesome Earnest Ice Cream booth, shop for fresh local berries, cherries, and garlic scapes, and try out Venezuelan food truck El Coroto Kitchen, for super delicious, fluffy, and filling arepas – a traditional sandwich made with a cornmeal-based dough and stuffed with fresh veggies and other options.
Then it’s off to the beachside Kitsilano Showboat, which is celebrating it’s 84th anniversary this year, for their Canada Day celebrations featuring 6 hours of entertainment, plus cake! The family-friendly fun starts at 3:15pm, keeping in mind that it is weather permitting since it’s all outside.
