Long before the Jericho Sailing Centre facilitated launching Lasers, windsurfers, kayaks and SUPs, the site was used to launch Blackburn Sharks, Supermarine Stranraers and various other flying boats and seaplanes.
The Jericho Sailing Centre building was built in 1940 as the RCAF Jericho Beach Air Station Marine and Stores Building.
The pre-RCAF Jericho Beach Air Station was established in the infancy of Canadian aviation in 1920, almost 10 years before the Vancouver Airport opened.
Learn more about the history of the Jericho Beach Air Station at a slide show presentation with Jericho Sailing Centre Association GM Mike Cotter on Tuesday, October 16 at 7pm.
The presentation is free but please RSVP so they can save you a chair.
