UPDATE: The Evergreen Cannabis Society on West 4th Avenue is still set to be Vancouver’s first legal pot shop, but it won’t be opening on Saturday, December 29th. In a tweet, the recreational cannabis store said its grand opening will be delayed to January 5th due to the holiday season impacting timelines at Vancouver City Hall.
Kitsilano’s own Evergreen Cannabis Society is set to become the first licensed private cannabis retailer in Vancouver under B.C.’s new provincial cannabis laws.
The retail cannabis store, which has operated as a medical marijuana dispensary for the past three years, is located at 2868 West 4th Avenue. It is set to begin sales at 11:00am on Saturday.
Co-founder Mike Babins told the CBC that he is “very, very excited” for Saturday morning.
“We went through all the stuff with the city for three years and now we spent the past four months going back and forth with the province and they were asking us every single little detail about our lives,” Babins said.
