A man has been shot to death in Kitsilano.
In a prepared statement, Vancouver police said they were called to the area of West 4th and Burrard Street at 8:30pm on Tuesday, April 16th and found the victim dead at the scene. Police said he had been shot.
“It is still very early in the investigation, but this appears to be a targeted shooting. No arrests have been made,” the statement read.
According to a CBC report, the victim’s BMW was bullet-riddled.
Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or has information about the incident, is asked to call the VPD’s major crime section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
APRIL 18th UPDATE:
The Vancouver Police Department have revealed that the victim was Manoj Kumar, a 30-year-old resident of Vancouver.
In a VPD news release, Cst. Jason Doucette stated that Kumar was not known to police and “does not have any obvious connections to a criminal lifestyle”.
Police had received reports of a vehicle leaving the scene after the shooting. Before midnight on April 16, the Vancouver fire department informed the VPD that an SUV was found on fire on West 22nd Avenue at Yew Street.
While a direct connection between the shooting and the vehicle fire have not yet been established, officers have seized the vehicle as part of their ongoing investigation.
