Bathtub races return to Kits Beach this Saturday, August 10th.
More than 25 motorized bathtubs will race at Kitsilano Beach as part of the 11th annual KitsFest, a sports and healthy living beach festival that runs from Friday, August 9th to Sunday, August 11th.
The KitsFest RCYC Bath Tub Race will take place on a one-mile course off Kitsilano Beach. Racers will be divided into three divisions with multiple heats, with the fastest bathtubs from each heat proceeding to additional rounds.
Bath tub racing was a regular occurrence at Kits Beach from 1967 to 1996 with the Great International World Championship Bathtub Race charting a course from Nanaimo to Vancouver. The sport made its return to Vancouver in 2018 after a two-decade hiatus.
