The Park Board’s plan to allow people to legally consume alcohol in parks has expanded from 10 to 22 locations across the city and includes an area at Kitsilano Beach.
A staff report goes before park commissioners on Monday but warns that a trial this summer may be delayed because of an ongoing disagreement with the provincial government over jurisdiction.
The B.C. Liquor Control and Licensing Act will need to be amended to give the board authority to allow the trial.
The proposed area at Kitsilano Beach is the “east area”, from the parking lot to Hadden Park.
If the trial is approved is expected to last until Thanksgiving Day long weekend in October. The board meets Monday at 6:30pm to discuss the staff report.
