A fire in Kitsilano early Wednesday morning left 38 residents displaced and sent eight people to the hospital with injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation.

The blaze broke out around 3am on the second floor of a four-storey apartment building on West 7th Avenue.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue reported significant damage, rendering the building uninhabitable. While the fire was extinguished by 8am, investigators are still determining the cause.

Social services will be provided to the displaced residents. No injuries were reported among the firefighters on scene.
