Craftworks: stocking stuffers, ornaments and poinsettias for a great cause

Not only does Craftworks (Yew and West 4th) sell adorable, locally made items for the young and old, all of the items are handmade by adults with disabilities. Craftworks is a non-profit whose mission is to promote adult health by providing a craft-therapy program, which offers individuals working to overcome physical disability and/or mental illness the opportunity to increase self-esteem and creative skills, while providing them supplemental income.

The felt hand puppets are a store staple and a favourite of the little ones in my life. At $6 each, they also make excellent stocking stuffers. This time of year Craftworks also carries ornaments, stockings, decorations, and adorable advent calendars. In the midst of excess consumerism the season can often bring, these are items I feel good about buying.

Craftworks depends on volunteers and donations from our community to stay in operation. This year you can support Craftworks’ fundraising efforts with the purchase of a poinsettia for only $13. Pick up a few handmade decorations for your tree while you’re there.
