Eastern European Restaurant Closes and Thai Restaurant Opens at Arbutus and Broadway

Screen Shot 2013-06-14 at 7.39.28 PMI had a soft spot for Transylvanian: a quaint eastern European restaurant formerly at Arbutus and West Broadway. We loved their cabbage rolls and they were surprisingly receptive to small children. Nonetheless, they have closed and a new Thai restaurant has taken their place.

Thai Benjarong Cuisine has recently opened, serving up stir fry, curry, soup, and other Thai favourites. The restaurant prides itself on being an authentic Thai restaurant: no fusion or modern spins. Most mains on the menu are around $12 and all lunch specials are under $9.

I just ate here for dinner for the first time this past weekend. I left pretty underwhelmed. Perhaps they are just working out some kinks from the new opening. I found the food to be small and averagely prepared (despite the boasting website). I’m not too eager to head back, but that’s just me.
