I think most people would agree that Vancouver is a pretty culturally diverse city. And that the Westside is no exception.

A group of community organizations* have teamed up to celebrate the cultural diversity of our Westside communities and to raise funds for the 7th & Vine redevelopment of the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House.

The Art Shines for Love fundraiser will take place this Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6:00-9:00pm in the Auditorium of Lord Byng Secondary School at 3939 West 16th Ave.

This fundraiser consists of two parts. From 6 to 6:45pm is the ‘Emerging Young Artist Silent Auction’, featuring original paintings by talented newcomer youth as well as other fabulous goods and services donated by local businesses and individuals. From 7 to 9pm is the ‘Art Shines for Love’ multicultural variety show featuring newcomer’s talents from schools across the Vancouver School Board district.

Some of the highlights of the performances include a Musqueam Blessing and Welcome Dance, Youth Hip-Hop and K-Pop, Latin, Indian, Korean and Chinese Ethnic Dances, Youth Western Instrumental Ensemble, Pilipino & Mongolian Songs, Taiko and more.

So, invite your friends and family, and enjoy an evening in your own community where we celebrate the artistic talents of newcomer youth while raising money for the only Neighbourhood House on the Westside: the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House.

Tickets are $5 for General Seating and $15 for VIP Seating. Buy tickets at: artshinesforlove.eventbrite.ca. All proceeds from the event go to the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House.

*Event organizers: VSB SWIS Program: Byng Project 3B, Canada Youth Arts Development Foundation, Kitsilano Neighbourhood House and  Sacrificium Society of Production. With support provided by the Kerrisdale Community Centre Association and MOSAIC.
