Southlands Country Fair

Southlands Country Fair

Summer is refusing to give into the next season and this weekend’s forecast will certainly prove its defiance. Sure, you could head on down to the beach but consider venturing out of our Kitsilano neighbourhood to check out some other interesting areas. Here are 3 family friendly events this weekend to do just that.

3 Family Friendly Events this Weekend

1. Farmers Markets – Saturday, September 13th, 10am-2pm
While we love our very own Kitsilano Farmers Market on Sundays, why not check out a new farmers market at nearby Trout Lake or Kerrisdale Village? Trout Lake will also be hosting a KidStart Community Day this Saturday with all kinds of fun activities like a circus school, face painting, button making, bicycle obstacle course, and much more. The farmers markets are free to attend, though bring some cash for all the goodies you will want to bring home. The KidStart Community Day costs $5.

2. Southlands Country Fair – Sunday, September 14th, 10am-4pm
This Southlands community event focuses on horses and a rural lifestyle within the city of Vancouver, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a day in the country without leaving the city. Several thousand people will be attending this family event with activities all day long for all ages. Expect pony rides, hay rides, a petting zoo, live music, and a marketplace with arts, crafts, books, and lots of good, wholesome food. Admission is by donation.

3. Autumn Shift Festival – Sunday, September 14th, 12pm-6pm
Come celebrate the neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant at Vancouver’s last summer street festival with various performers, musicians, a BBQ cook-off, art exhibits, free pony rides, a market, and other great surprises. Locations: Main Street between Broadway and East 7th Avenue, the laneways west of Main Street, 8th Avenue to Quebec and the EasyPark parking lot on 8th Avenue and Main Street. Admission is free and there will be free popcorn and cotton candy too!
