On Wednesday, July 15th, the Government of BC announced a Level 4 drought rating for the South Coast and Lower Fraser areas due to ongoing low stream flows. Despite this, the City of Vancouver has not increased its water restrictions from Stage 2, not yet anyway. “All water users are urged to maximize their water conservation efforts”, as stated by the Government of BC, yet we’ve all seen unnaturally green and glistening lawns in our neighbourhoods, even when most of our kids’ water parks are closed.

Please help the City of Vancouver by reporting any water abusers. Just call 311 with the address, date, and time the offender has been watering their lawn outside of the permitted times. In the mean time, here are 4 outdoor pools and spray parks that are still open in the Kitsilano and surrounding neighbourhoods. Check the Vancouver Park Board website for a complete listing.

4 Outdoor Pools Still Open in and Around Kitsilano

1. Kitsilano Pool
Our very own beautiful beach-side pool is still open, thank goodness. It features a heated saltwater pool that accommodates all ages. Fees are $5.76 for adults, $4.10 for 13-18 years, $2.90 for 3-12, and kids 2 and under are free. Multiple day passes are also available.

2. Chaldecott Park
In the Dunbar neighbourhood, this park has one of the few water spray parks that are still open. There’s also a wonderful playground, large field (albeit a bit brown by now), washrooms, and plenty of shade for picnics. There’s no fee to use this park.

3. Maple Grove Pool
This is a fun, heated outdoor wading pool in Kerrisdale, and it’s a great place to learn to swim, have a family picnic, or cool from the hot sun. Enjoy a treat from the little concession stand, use the playground, play water basketball, or swim to the mini island. It’s open daily from 10:15am till 7:45pm. Fees are $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for 3-18 years, and 2 and under are free. Cash only.

4. Second Beach Pool
Located in Stanley Park, this pool is also heated and on the beach. It has a sloped entry and gradual depths for little ones, and separated lanes for lap swimmers. The concession stand here is great, and there are onsite washrooms and two playgrounds nearby. Fees are $5.76 for adults, $4.10 for 13-18 years, $2.90 for 3-12, and kids 2 and under are free. Multiple day passes are also available.
