This year, B.C. Family Day is on Monday, February 8. The weather forecast is looking good, so if you’re looking for fun things to do with your family we’ve found six great free events in and around Kitsilano.
Monkey See, Monkey Make at ArtStarts
To celebrate Family Day and Chinese New Year, ArtStarts Gallery, on Richards Street, has planned a packed agenda including family yoga, arts activities that explore family identity and an afternoon movie screening of The Croods. All ages are welcome and you can drop in anytime throughout the day (10am-4.30pm).
Family Dance and Play
The Kitsilano Community Centre will be buzzing from 10.30am-1.30pm. Between the open gym with bouncy castle, face painting, a caricature artist, music together class (11-11.30am) and endorphin dance classes (11.45am-12.15 pm and 12.30-1pm) there will be something for everyone.
Explore VanDusen Botanical Garden
Admission to VanDusen Botanical Garden is free this Family Day. With more than 7,000 different plants from around the world, an abundance of local wildlife, art, and the hedge maze, you could happily while away the day. And there are plenty of picnic spots or you can buy something delicious from the cafe or restaurant.
Zumba and Play at West Point Grey
Start your day with an all-ages Zumba class from 9-10am at West Point Grey Community Centre (4397 West 2nd Avenue) and then enjoy the family playtime (with bouncy castle), face painting and arts and crafts from 11am-2pm.
Free Skate Rental at Robson Square
Enjoy free skate rental and free hot chocolate this Family Day at Robson Square Ice Rink. The rink will be open 9am to 9pm (free hot chocolate 2-8pm).
Family Day Campfire at Pacific Spirit Park
Head out to Pacific Spirit Park from 1-3.30pm, for a cozy campfire gathering with stories, songs, hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows. All ages are welcome. Meet at the Park Centre at 16th Avenue, 400 meters west of Blanca Street.
