Two cycling advocacy groups are hoping to bring out tens of thousands of people this summer to rides their bikes through downtown Vancouver.
The organizers of the Dutch Ride and Bike the Night are asking the city council to provide $250,000 to support the summer events.
The plan would take $250,000 from the already-approved Engineering Services Operating Budget, mostly for supporting services like traffic management and police presence.
Our City Ride would happen during the day, rolling through Gastown, Stanley Park and the West End. The second ride, labelled Bike the Night 2017, would be at night and would start at David Lam Park and go over the Burrard Street Bridge.
Both rides are targeting 10,000 participants. Read more about the proposal online.
