Summer has sent its official goodbye salute folks.

And while the wee ones do enjoy a few muddy puddle jumps in the park, there can be a whole lot of fun indoors around our neighbourhood, too. Here’s our list of the best indoor activities for kids in and around Kitsilano.

Sports

If your active kid is still in a gradual entry schedule for school, isn’t yet school-aged or it’s a holiday/weekend, you’ll need to find a physical activity fast to help fill up that rainy day. Check out the Kitsilano Community Centre for a variety of programs including soccer, dance, taekwondo, ballet, and sportball. They also offer a free Youth Lounge for teenagers aged 13-18, and there’s always the ice rink for skating and hockey.

Yoga Buttons on West Broadway offers drop-in yoga classes for kids and includes not just traditional yoga but also crafts, story time, games, and dancing.

Entertainment

Visit the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre at Vanier Park for awesome space shows in the Planetarium Star Theatre, watch science experiments in the GroundStation Canada Theatre, or touch a real meteorite and moon rock at the Cosmic Courtyard Exhibit Space.

A few minutes outside of Kits you could check out the Granville Island Kids Market (if you’re up for the rather hectic atmosphere) or for some tropical warmth walk into the Bloedel Conservatory at the Queen Elizabeth Park and try to spot the parrots.

Educational

We have three museums all in the neighbourhood, plus many more nearby. Try the Museum of Vancouver for a bit of local history, the Vancouver Maritime Museum for a chance to get aboard a historically famous ship, and the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum which is housed in the oldest building in the city dating back to 1865. A little further up the road, you’ll find the renowned Museum of Anthropology with its incredible collection of First Nations artifacts and other cool relics from around the globe.
