The moment it hits November, it’s that time of year to turn the romance up an extra notch. With rainy, cold, and dark days ahead, a candle-lit dinner, some good wine and indulgent foods are just what’s needed.

So, invite a date (or a friend to practice on), and head out to one of these romantic restaurants in Kitsilano.

East is East $$

For exotic atmosphere, East is East tops the bunch. Warm candlelight, soft pillows, spices in the air, and eclectic live music. Try the Chai Feast – a tasting menu for a perfect bit of flavour adventure. And their chai teas melt any remaining frostiness away.

East is East, 3035 West Broadway, 604-734-5881, eastiseast.ca

The BoatHouse $$

Situated right on Kits Beach, the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows really can’t be beat. Make sure to have an ocean-side window seat reservation for before 6pm so you can catch the sunset over the Burrard Inlet. And, the BoatHouse is having their Lobster Fest right now. We’d like the Crab and Shrimp Stuffed Atlantic Lobster Tail please.

The BoatHouse, 1305 Arbutus Street, 604-738-5487, boathouserestaurants.ca

The Oakwood $$

Not exactly a place for deep conversation, this lively, shiny Kits favourite is great for sharing small plates and lots of drinks. The food menu is New Canadian-style with something for everyone, and their cocktails are potent and well made. Brunch-dates are a good idea here, too. Try their Cassoulet with succulent braised beef.

The Oakwood, 2741 West 4th Avenue, 604-558-1965, theoakwood.ca

Bishop’s $$$

An iconic Kitsilano restaurant with a classic yet innovative West Coast menu. Plates are works of art, service is professionally attentive, and the art on the walls are definite conversation starters (as are the often famous people eating right next to you). Their current fall 3-course menu for $75 is, as always, heavy on local and organic ingredients and features BC shrimp, organic sirloin steak, and a vol au vent (puff pastry) filled with fresh local apple and hazelnuts.

  1. Joe Kits says:

    La Quercia
    Corduroy
    Cacao
    Baru
    Akbars

  2. Bing says:

    There’s only 4 here…?

  3. randy says:

Not your best posting… only 4 “romantic restaurants”, one of those is a big chain (Boathouse) and one “not exactly a place for deep conversation” (which contradicts the whole “romantic theme”).
Bishop’s would be my #1 for this category. Other candidates: Mission Kits (if you get the front of the room), Cacao, Anna Lena, Baru (on a quiet night), La Quercia, Pastis, Maenam, Fable…
C’mon, you can do better 😉
