Heritage Week is across BC and Canada from February 19th to 25th.
This years theme is “Heritage Stands the Test of Time” and will celebrate how heritage sites and buildings offer insight and education about our past and can be enjoyed and utilized by all generations.
Among the Heritage Week activities are a series of events honouring Vancouver’s historic legacy and offering a chance to explore and learn about the city’s special heritage spaces.
Kitsilano Neighbourhood House (2305 West 7th Avenue) will be hosting one of these free events, Places That Matter: Community Celebration, on Wednesday, February 21st from 6:30pm – 9pm.
Celebrate the local, cultural and lesser known history of our city with a free evening of storytelling, community and refreshments. Local comedian Morgan Brayton will serve as MC introducing several speakers connected to memorable sites honoured through the Places That Matter program. There will be opportunities to share your own stories, explore community booths, and learn about the Places That Matter plaque project and the new Community History Resource website.

The monthly Community Potluck at Kits House is the same evening with a special start time of 5:30 so everyone has time to eat before the Places That Matter event begins at 6:30. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share if you can.
The potlucks are held the third Wednesday of every month.

As part of this much-needed reflection and celebration of heritage and the value of preserving, respecting and benefiting from the history of our city, please do not forget to sign the No Parking Meters at Spanish Banks Petition! We must fight to hold-on to what has been right and good about Vancouver: free accessibility to our beaches for all. Help protect accessibility to seniors, the disabled and those of low or modest income, who cannot get the beach except by car and cannot afford $3.50 an hour to park.
