We’re still in full winter mode here in the city, but that doesn’t mean you need to be bored at home. Here’s what’s on in our Kitsilano neighbourhood for the weekend, from trying new and delicious food, to baking treats, dabbling in fine arts, and looking out for signs of spring.
Friday, February 23
If you’re feeling peckish after work, check out two newish food trucks in Kits. The San Juan Food Truck, on the corner of West 4th Avenue and Yew Street, serves up Bolivian fare and smoothies – all organic from their San Juan family farm. This food truck is open from 1:30pm to 7:30pm and is stationed at this spot Tuesday to Saturday.
The other option is the Miss Siam Food Truck which offers your favourite Thai street eats from Thailand’s spicy south. This truck is only in our neighbourhood on Fridays and is located at the corner of Burrard Street and West 1st Avenue. It’s open from 11am to 2pm.
Saturday, February 24
Even though the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival isn’t until April, a few of the delicate, ornamental cherry blossoms are poking out in Kitsilano – a sure sign that spring is around the corner. Good spots to stroll around and find these welcoming flowers, rain or snow, is along West 5th Avenue, Cypress Street, and in Vanier Park.
Sunday, February 25
Book a fun and casual ceramics or painting workshops for the kids, yourself, or for the whole family at the 4Cats Arts Studio. You’ll end up with a nice decor item (or not), such as a bowl, mug, or abstract landscape painting, while learning a few new techniques along the way.
Monday, February 26
Bake some cupcakes. Collect donations for them. Save an animal’s life. It’s that simple, and it starts today, Monday, February 26th (though you can do this on any day that suits you), when it’s the official National Cupcake Day 2018 in Canada in support of the BC SPCA. Or you can find an individual or team that’s doing the baking, and then donate to them (and eat away!).
